| After a long and patient wait, we finally start business in this attractive market.
Indonesia has a population of 220 million people and over 17,000 islands. Jakarta is the capital and center of politics and the economy. It was a tiny harbor village called Sunda Kelapa, and this name was changed to Jayakarta (City of Great Victory) in the 16th century with the entry of Islam.
We established PT.TAIYO GIKEN INDONESIA (TGI) in Bekasi in December 2002. It is an industrial town situated east of Jakarta and about 60 km from Soekarno-Hatta Jakarta International Airport.
In April 1997, our CEO Mr. Ishimi visited Jababeka Industrial Estate and contracted with them. However, the Asian monetary crisis occurred in Thailand in September of the same year, later spreading to Indonesia, which delayed the opening of the Indonesia subsidary by eight years. During this period, there was a counteroffer for resale or rental of the land, yet Mr. Ishimi refused this and kept waiting for the chance to start operation. He had a firm belief that the Indonesian market would be worth it to TG in the future. He never forgot the one local employee, only one, waiting patiently for the day of the company's opening. His philosophy of management since youth is that he wishes to be a man who can value individual people. His character is really shown by the agony he felt for the local employee he never forgot. After enduring patiently to overcome great difficulties, TGI at last started up in September 2005, with full-scale operations then beginning in 2006.
Today, widespread attention is being focused on Indonesia as the biggest market for two-wheeled vehicles in ASEAN. While naturally this production base is the subject of great expectations, future plans not only call for a focus on components for two-wheeled vehicles but also for breaking into the field of agricultural machinery as well. Following a lengthy gestation and birth, TGI will provide tremendous support as a pillar of our operations in the southern hemisphere. |
